This. This was a gem. It’s a random list of questions for your characters to help you get in touch with them..
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Mikael’s past is tricky at best. In one scenario, his father sells him to slavers to keep him from challenging him as pack leader. In another, Mikael’s “father” is the demon Xaphrael, but that relationship is much, much trickier.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
The eyes- Mikael has the icy blue eyes of a Northerner, and the heavy brow to go with it.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
There are none that I know of, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?
Mikael is very careful about his appearance. He knows how much looks can say, what they tell other people, how they influence opinions, so he uses that tool to his ever advantage.
He knows that his strong build and features put him in the “tall, dark and handsome” category, but the things that he finds attractive aren’t measure on skin.
5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the KINSEY SCALE?
Mikael is a pure 3. Again, attractiveness to him isn’t measured in skin, or gender, or in the body at all. The body is how one experiences sex, a side-effect of attraction, but the shape and gender of the body aren’t as important as the mind and soul within.
Also, disclaimer, that is NOT as romantic as it sounds.
6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.
No. Not that one. Pick something else, buddy.
….did I mention Mikael is a villain? His happiest memories involve manipulation and torture. Why don’t we just move right on from this one?
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why?
He would prefer not to have wasted so much time in the North- Xavier’s territory is so much more interesting.
8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower?
Black Cherry, Brick Red, Pain by Three Days Grace comes to mind, and there is no flower I am aware of that he favors.
9.) Who does your character trust?
Azriel. Completely. Blindly and stupidly so, even.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.
Meeting Azriel. Meeting Devin. Being saved from his suicide mission.
(Don’t you just love how I’m nice and vague with these?)
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?
Wolf. Viper. No, this one is not a actually a proper shapeshifter… sometimes.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?
Mikael usually has access to more direct means of communication than email or letters. He is not above the use of either, however.
13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?
Mikael typically does not sleep, as vampires in our verse really don’t need to. They might rest and reflect, possibly drift as if in day dreaming, but they are not bound by sunlight or any such foolishness.
Did I mention he was a vampire?
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold?
Mikael actually tends to wander around the frozen North in nothing but hide pants and thick boots – and that’s more to protect himself from sharp ice than the cold. Heat is equally unimportant to him. He will, however, dress to blend in if anyone is about to see him.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl?
Vampires tend to be more active at night, because their prey is more sluggish then, and they have the advantage of darkness for hiding. But again, time of day matters little to them. Being nocturnal is more a matter of convenience and convention.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?
Mikael village was destroyed by a demon. Depending on who you ask, it was either shortly after he left it, or he was the sole survivor.
17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?
Mikael is fastidious. He keeps his tools and possession in immaculate condition, and expects his property to do the same for themselves. He cannot abide clutter- it is a sign of laziness, lasciviousness or stupidity- all of which are traits he holds in low regard.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)
He considers himself quite the connoisseur of his chosen foodstuffs, and is very picky about what he eats. He will “cook” what he eats, to the extent that he controls the environment and conditions it “simmers” in, but he does not cook by human standards. His favorite recipe is to give his victim a sense of self-righteous anger, slow cooked over the illusion that if they work at it, they can get revenge.
19.) What’s your character’s preferred means of travel?
Demon portal. Everything else is just so tedious.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears?
Mikael is terribly afraid that someday people will love him, and ship him in the most ungodly of pairings, because they will romanticize him and refuse to actually see him for the cold, heartless monster that he is.
21.) What would your character’s CUTIE MARK be?
Probably a wolf’s paw stamped over a snowflake. Maybe a daisy. Possibly an ulu.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go?
To the end of the world? Sounds like a party.
23.) Is your character superstitious?
No. There are enough real, tangible things to worry about.
24.) What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?
Violent. Resilient. Immortal. Cruel. Too curious for their own good. Gifted with knives.
25.) Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?
Mikael is significantly smaller than you would expect from a Northerner. We Southern folk might consider him fairly robust, but many Northerners fail to take him seriously. His hands, like the rest of him, are simply too delicate for the harsh work of the North.
The better to wrap around your throat, my dear.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.
…I feel like I missed these for Seth… Anyways.
Vice: playing with his food
Outfit: Tailored suits – Southern living has its perks.
Hot drink: Tea, usually green citrus
Time of Year: Autumn
Holiday: Grain Harvest Day
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.
…I can’t wait til I do Kain or Kaiya for one of these. I know EXACTLY which songs to pick for them.
Ok, I can do this. Let’s see…. something by Depeche Mode for his time with Azriel… Maybe Lose Myself? Or perhaps cliche with Master and Servant.
Aaaaand Hungry like the Wolf, because again, cliches. 😛
28.) If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?
Book by Jack London 😛 Or perhaps a book by Laruell K. Hamilton…
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne?
Ooh ooh! I know this one! I’ve answered it before! …..right! Spearmint. 😀
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself.
You know it’s all your own damned fault, right? If you stopped being Jericho Barron’s as a vampire, women would stop loving you.
Suck it up,
